Found some more time to work on the X-Wing...these are Ambient Occlusion renders.

X-Wing 1

X-Wing 2

One of the advantages of hobby work is that one can skip around from project to project. Feel like working on my X-Wing so that's what I'm doing. This render may not look substantially different from the one on my "3D Models" page, but a lot of the geometry in the fuselage has been reworked...mostly accuracy-related changes that only a geek like me would give a damn about. Notice the greeblie area behind R2 is missing; that's what I was working on before writing this notice.

Avoided getting back to work on the SkyDiver model by doing an animation.

Have a look here!

While I've been working on updating my Shado SkyDiver model, I took a break to do some work on a model earth. Just felt like it, I guess. Have a look!

The good people at Newtek, the makers of LightWave, posted an artist's profile on me. Basically, it's an interview.

If you're interested, it can be seen here. Thanks, Newtek!

Planned on doing some tutorial writing but came across a post on Newtek's forum where a bunch of people were experimenting with SSS nodes to come up with a human skin shader. I haven't goofed around with nodes much yet, so I worked a little on the standard surface on my female character. Used ChanLum for SSS. The rest of the surface is combination of gradients and other procedurals. I think if I painted good skin color and spec maps, I might have a decent skin here...

From 1997 until 2000, I ran a website where, among other things, I distributed models I either made myself or converted from other formats to LightWave. The models were mostly classic Star Wars and Gerry Anderson vehicles. The site was a "personal" site hosted on Tripod's free hosting server and they surreptitiously removed it one day without so much as notify me...wasn't until a correspondent sent me an email that I found out. I assume the site was taken down as someone at Tripod was nervous about copyright problems, what with the nature of the models I was distributing. The site seemed to me to be popular and I received a lot of great messages from people who got a kick out of using my models. Even now, 6 years after the site went away, I still get some emails from people requesting that I make my Gerry Anderson models available again.

In the years since then, I've always meant to put up a new site but never found the time. Well, now I've made a little time. I've learned a lot in the past several years of working as a digital artist and I think I may have a few valuable techniques to share; I'll be writing those up on the Tutorials page. Also, I think it's fair to say my skills as a modeler and texture artist have increased dramatically...so I'd like to update some of my old models and make them available again.

I've just come off a lengthy project and am, at this time, taking a break from work...not really looking for anything new, either, as I'd like to concentrate on my own projects for awhile. Which isn't to say that something won't come up, as it often seems to. If that happens, my "hobby" work (ie., what I'm doing for this website) will have to be put on the back-burner...paying work takes precedence, as I think anyone would understand. Maybe that I'll receive enough from PayPal donations to keep me focused on working on material for this website. Be lying if I didn't admit that'd put a smile on my face! Guess time will tell about that...
