Climate Change and Politics
January 28, 2022

When you hear our "leaders" talk about the imminent dangers of climate change and how it's imperative that everything that can be done to accelerate the movement to a non-fossil fuel-based economy should be done -and done yesterday- please remember that these dickheads are perfectly willing to play politics and games with climate change as much as they would with anything else. Really, how serious can they be said to take this issue when the president repeatedly refers to Ford and GM as EV leaders while blatantly ignoring the true leader of the EV revolution?

Facts are facts: GM sold 26 electric vehicles in Q4 of 2021 while Tesla sold over 300,000 during the same period. Ford plans to produce 600,000 EVs in 2023 while Tesla sold 936,000 vehicles LAST year and could be producing over 2 million in 2023.

What is the criteria for being called a "leader"? If it's not how many units you produce and sell -as it clearly isn't- is it simply a matter of calling yourself one? If the President of the United States refers to your company as a "leader" while your competitor sells more 10,000x as many as you, are a leader in anything besides being a poser?

I've read/heard both Mary Barra of GM and Jim Farley at Ford each refer to their companies as EV leaders. What the f*ck are these people talking about?

If political leadership was serious about tackling climate change wouldn't they be promoting and helping the true leader to the limits of possibility? Would they have the luxury of referring to those who are fighting for a distant second-place as leaders?
